EU supports capacity building of Assembly Members

Zabzugu (N/R), Dec 24, GNA- The European Union (EU) is committed to support the government’s decentralization policy and good governance, Mrs Lily Howars Boney, an official from the European Union Human Resource Development, has said.

She said the EU would support the training and capacity building programme of the district assemblies and their core staff to enable them to implement development programmes for their communities.

She was speaking at a three-day training workshop organised for 30 newly elected assembly members of the Zabzugu-Tatale District. Mrs Boney urged the assembly members not to be distracted by partisan and other negative issues but to channel their efforts to the development and progress of their communities.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development organised the workshop to enhance the capacity building of the assembly members. Mrs Boney advised the assembly members to take the training seriously to broaden and deepen their understanding of the task they have been elected to accomplish.

The District Chief Executive, Alhaji Yakubu Bukari, called on the assembly members to work towards unity, peace and harmony.
