The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has assured that flight schedules have not been disrupted at the Kotoka International Airport, despite a plane crash on its runway Saturday.
An Ethiopian Airline Boeing 737-400 cargo plane operated by ASKY Airlines from Lome to Accra sustained substantial damage in a runway excursion on landing at the Kotoka Airport, Saturday morning.
The acting Director-General of the GCAA, Abdulai Alhassan, has told the media “operations at the airport are normal.”
Three persons, who were on board the 18-year-old aircraft, have been treated and discharged at the 37 Military Hospital.
The GCAA has begun investigations into the incident to determine the cause which has largely been attributed to the harsh harmattan weather in Ghana.
According to the Corporate Officer of the Ghana Airport Company, Newman Quartey, the accident scene has been secured and cordoned off to allow for smooth investigations.
Emergency teams on the ground include the GCAA, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, NADMO, Ghana Police Service, National Security, National Ambulance Service and the Ghana Airport Company.
