Essam Community sensitised on HIV/AIDS

Essam (E/R), Feb. 23, GNA- An HIV/AIDS awareness campaign was held at Essam near Akim Oda in the Eastern Region on Saturday, to educate the people about the causes, symptoms, effects and prevention of the disease. The day’s programme, which was organised by the assembly member of the area, Mr Reginald Sackey was attended by chiefs, farmers, traders and the youth in the town. Participants were taken through the mode of HIV/AIDS transmission, impact of the disease on agriculture and the use of contraceptives. Mr Sackey who led a three-member resource persons of the programme, urged the participants to impact the knowledge they had acquired to people in their various communities, to make the campaign a success. He appealed to religious leaders to support the fight against HIV/AIDS and advised the youth to abstain from pre-marital sex to prevent them from contracting the disease adding that “The use of condom is not reliable, but it is just an abstinence.” 27 Feb. 08
