Escapee Suspect in handcuffs arrested

Kasoa (C/R), April 8, GNA – Abukaar Sadiq, a 20-year-old man who escaped from the custody of the Ghana Navy in Tema with the handcuffs on, and managed to travel to Nyanyano, has been arrested by the Police at Kasoa. The Kasoa District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jordan Quaye, made this known in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Winneba on Thursday.

DSP Quaye said on April 4, 2010, Sadiq approached some welders at their shop at Kasoa to cut-open the handcuffs on his hands but instead the welders arrested and handed him over to the police. DSP Quaye said Sadiq when interrogated after his re-arrest, told the police that he hailed from Takoradi but lived in Tema, where he was arrested by authorities of the Ghana Navy a few days ago for committing an offence he did not disclose.

The Police commander said Sadiq claimed that he had escaped from custody at Tema, using rags to cover the cuffs and went into hiding at Nyanyano.
