Escaped prisoner jailed two years

Elmina (C/R), Jan.30, GNA- The Elmina Magistrate’s court on Thursday sentenced Michael Amoah, who was serving a 10-year prison sentence and escaped, to two more years for escaping from lawful custody.

Amoah, 24, pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Keyward Adjei told the court presided over by Mr Kwame Ohene Essel, that the Assistant Director of Prisons in charge of Ankaful Prisons is the complainant in the case.

The prosecution said Amoah who was first convicted at Koforidua in 1997, was sent to Nsawam Prisons and later transferred to Ankaful Prisons near Cape Coast in 1999.

He said sometime in September last year, Amoah in the company of others were sent out for external labour at Brofoyedur a suburb of Cape Coast and were given a 30-minute break.

The prosecution said all the other prisoners reported but Amoah failed to come and all efforts to trace him failed.

Inspector Adjei said a report was made to the police, and Amoah was recently arrested at Koforidua in another stealing case.
