Esaso Club acquires land for farming

Nkawie (Ash), March 15, GNA – The ‘Nyame Mmere’ Club, a voluntary non-political organisation at Esaso, near Adankwame has acquired an eight-hectare land to cultivate maize, okro and other food crops to raise income to support its social and economic activities. Mr Kwaku Atta, chairman of the club, who disclosed this, said the unemployed members will also be assisted to acquire skills in hairdressing, dressmaking, carpentry, shoe and soap making, batik, tie and dye.

He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Nkawie in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti on Tuesday after the club had undertaken a five-hour clean-up exercise around the district assembly’s administration block, as part of their environmental sanitation programme.

The 37-member club, which was formed about two years ago, has undertaken similar exercises at Dabaa, Pasoro, Barekuma, the Barekese Water Heads and the Barekese Health Centre.

Mr Atta said the club has put up a shed at Esaso Lorry Station at the cost of five million cedis to offer shelter and comfort to travellers and other commuters.

He said six brilliant but needy pupils in the area have been supplied with books, stationary and other learning materials to enhance their education.

He said the club would construct a block consisting of a dining hall, kitchen and store, estimated at 50 million cedis for the kindergarten department of Esaso Catholic Primary School. The club members will finance the project through voluntary contributions and a special levy.

Mr Atta commended Nana Boakye Agyemang, Esasohene and Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, the District Chief Executive for their immense support to the club and appealed to the government, organisations and well-meaning individuals to assist the club to improve upon its social and economic activities.
