The Akwatia constituency is in mourning after the sudden death of its Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

The news of his passing on Monday afternoon sent shockwaves through the town, with scores of constituents gathering at his family house to pay their respects.

Scenes of wailing and uncontrollable emotion unfolded as residents commiserated with the family and expressed their sorrow over the untimely death of their representative.

“It’s a devastating blow to the family and the entire Akwatia constituency,” said Edmund Appoh, a brother of the late MP. “He was the breadwinner of the family.”

The MP’s mother was reportedly overwhelmed by the news and had to be rushed to the hospital for medical attention, according to Edward Adu Ntiamoah, an uncle of the deceased.

Residents described Ernest Yaw Kumi as a humble and dedicated leader whose contributions to the constituency will be sorely missed.

“He was a great leader,” said one resident. “His passing is a huge loss to our community.”

Ernest Yaw Kumi died at Lister Hospital in Accra after a short illness, reportedly suffering a heart attack while preparing to write a law examination.
