Epilepsy sickness on the rise at Assin North Municipality

The Community Mental Health Officer for the Assin Fosu District in the Central region, Madam Comfort Sarpong is calling for a concerted effort to combat epilepsy in the country as more people are being affected by the menace.

Ultimate news’ Baah Acheamfuor reported that Madam Comfort Sarpong urged the medical sector and government to deepen the education on the disease as many attributes the cause to witch craft hence not seeking medical treatment.

The Assin Fosu District, for instance, she says, keeps recording increasing cases of the disease in the last three years.

While 299 cases were recorded in the year 2014, the year 2016 saw 696 cases which are an increase over the 2015 figure which stood at 518 thereby leading all mental cases in the district.

Speaking at Assin Fosu as part of the World Epilepsy Day, Madam Comfort Sarpong urged the public to report early cases of epilepsy so that treatment could start to root out potential escalation in the future.
