The Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Daniel Amlalo, has disclosed that his outfit has acquired a 50-acre land to be used for the construction of its housing project dubbed, “Green City Complex”.
The Executive Director said this during a joint tree planting exercise organised by EPA, Standard Chartered Bank and school children at the project site located at Addoteiman, Danfa in the La-Nkwantanang Madina District of the Greater Accra region.
The event was also used to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the EPA and the 2014 World Environment Day (WED). He said the EPA Green City Complex (EPAGCC) project is a model community and added that the Green City Complex would contain the national headquarters of the EPA, residence for staff, school and health facility, among others.
The Executive Director further explained that the Green City, when completed, would see a community, whose residents would make efficient use of energy, water conservation and management.
He further mentioned that the EPA, through the MESTI, had developed the National Climate Change policy and National Adaption Strategy to reduce vulnerabilities and risks posed by climate change to coastal communities and ecosystems.
The EPA donated 2,000 mahogany tree seedlings while Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) also donated 1,000 mixed tree species for the exercise. The theme for the event was ‘Green our Environment to save Ghana.’
The outgoing Deputy Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations (MESTI), Dr. Musheibu Mohammed-Alfa, in his keynote address, urged Ghanaians to adopt environmental and climate friendly technologies in their day to day engagements.
