Over ?3.5million has been collected at a fund-raising harvest at Enyan Abaasa to support a Technical Institute established by the people themselves. The harvest also marked the peak of the annual Akwambo Festival of the people. Addressing the gathering, the Director of the Technical and Vocational Education Division of the Ghana Education Service, Mr.. John Budu-Smith, stressed that the country’s accelerated development cannot be complete without technical and vocational education. That is why the government has decided to establish and equip 20 Technical and Vocational Resource Centres to facilitate effective training in technical subjects. Mr.. Budu-Smith spoke on the possible absorption of the Abaasa Institute into the public system. The District Chief Executive for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Mr.. Musa-Biney, assured the people of the District Assembly’s readiness to build a workshop for the Institute. He said female students should be encouraged to pursue technical courses. The District Director of Education, Mr.. Moses Abaka Kwofie, asked parents to take advantage of the Institute to offer their JSS graduates technical and vocational education. The Omanhene of the Enyan-Abaasa Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Akonu, spoke of the benefits of technical and vocational education and urged the people to support the Institute financially and materially. The Chairman for the function, Dr.. Jacob Owusu, advised students to take their studies seriously. On behalf of the government, the District Chief Executive presented a television set to the community. A citizen of the town, Mr.. Kofi Saah, also donated equipment and drugs worth 15 million cedis to the local Health Post. End
