Ensure hygienic preparation of herbal medicines

The National Vice Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners (GHAFTRAM), Sheikh Amen Bonsu, has urged the members to make sure that their medicines are prepared under strict hygienic conditions.

They should also give priority attention to packaging to promote the attractiveness of their products, he advised.

Sheikh Amen Bonsu, making the call through the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said there could be no doubt about the potency of herbal medicine but what was needed was to adopt best practices to increase patronage.

He noted the significant contribution that herbal medicines were making to the nation’s healthcare delivery system and asked members to continue to find scientific ways of processing their products.

He expressed concern about the crude manner in which some of the herbalists had been advertising their products and said that needed to change.

Sheikh Amen Bonsu, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Amen Scientific Hospital, said they should engage the services of professionals for a better job and take out indecent and unrefined language.

Again they should be honest and avoid making spurious claims about their abilities to heal difficult-to-cure diseases, such as fibroids, diabetes and the cancers.
