Ensure elections are devoid of antagonism

Wa, June 8, GNA- Mr. John Dramani Mahama, running mate to Professor John Evans Atta Mills, flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2008 Election, on Friday told a rousing crowd that it should ensure that the polls were devoid of antagonistic tendencies. He said opponents of the party had psychologically being preparing the minds of Ghanaians that the NDC was a violent party.
Mr Mahama said “By this, they are laying the foundation to accuse the NDC for chaos that they will vent on the nation if they lost the elections. This is exactly what their ancestors are noted for and it is in the blood of the off springs.”
The running mate, who was on a campaign tour of the Northern part of the country, said the NDC had conducted its primaries in peace and in a civilized manner.
Mr Mahama said “The NDC is aware that the whole world is watching us, especially on Election 2008 and I urged our party supporters to comport themselves peacefully but should remain resolute against the open and overt actions of our opponents to intimidate them.” He said the NDC handed over to the NPP when it won the 2000 Election and we expect them to do the same if the table turns in our favour.
Mr Mahama said: “the coziness of their office would make them grow wild and may refuse to accept the people’s verdict and once they have painted the NDC with violence they would be the first to point accusing fingers at the NDC for starting a fight.”
He said members of NDC, PNC, CPP and NPP were all brothers and sisters and the death of one should be the concern of all others. Mr Manama said “I must confess I have never seen a mass of people like this. Wa people, we love you, and I bring you greetings from Professor Attah Mills who has told you that he will conduct himself in office on the fact that the comfort of leadership was subordinated to the welfare of the people,” the NDC was poised for the welfare of the people.
