Accra, April 11, GNA – Mr Kofi Adams, an aide to former President Jerry John Rawlings, on Monday said the time had come for the media, self-seeking individuals and detractors of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stop peddling falsehood against the former President.
He said sections of the media more often misrepresented facts on comments by the former President, describing this as unfair and called on those doing that to stop immediately.
Mr Adams said these in Accra in a media briefing to react to comments from sections of the media, which according to him sought to discredit the former President and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, on issues of national importance.
Sections of the media had reported that Nana Konadu refused to stand up to acknowledge the presence of President John Evans Atta Mills during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NDC last Friday.
Other reports, Mr Adams termed negative and misrepresented were the comments that the former President made after the discharge and acquittal of the alleged murderers of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, Overlord of Dagbon.
Mr Adams said, 93From now on we are going to respond to every negative comment and false reports about the former President to ensure that the office of the former president is not discredited.” Reacting to reports that former first lady failed to stand up when President Mills entered the NEC meeting, Mr Adams said it was not announced that the President had arrived so all those who were busy including the former First Lady did not notice his presence. Mr Adams said the former President expressed concern that issues of agitations in Tamale leading to the death of one person after the discharge and acquittal of persons alleged to have murdered the Overlord of Dagbon should have been discussed at the NEC meeting and solutions found.
He said the former President was a citizen of the country and he could express his views as any other Ghanaian and that 93The former President as a member of the NDC would not pretend, like other party members, that all is well while the situation is bad.” Mr Adams assured Ghanaians and NDC sympathizers that the former President would not do anything to affect the fortunes of the party but he would continue to address issues that were likely to affect the party if not tackled on time.
