Accra, May 2, GNA – A team of engineers tasked with assessing the structure of 28th February Road Courts, which caved in last week, would on Friday submit its report to the Judicial Service.
Mr Justice George Kingsley Acquah, Chief Justice, made this known when he accompanied the outgoing Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Mr Joe Ghartey to inspect the Courts on Tuesday. The team of engineers from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service and Avantgards Designs Service, a consultant to the Judicial Service, also toured the premises.
The storey building at 28th February Road Courts also known as Cocoa Affairs Courts, on April 27, caved in causing injuries to two persons.
Speaking to journalists after the tour, Mr Ghartey said the experts were expected to make suggestions on whether or not the structure should be pulled down.
According to him, the experts would assess the cost of repairs as against cost of putting up a new structure. Ms Aku Kutts, Public Relations Officer, Judicial Service, said as soon as the engineers submitted their report, the Service would tell workers and the public what to do.
The 28th February Road Courts built in the 1920s currently house 18 courts comprising the Circuit and High Courts, Bailiff Sections, Registry and Judges’ Chambers.
