Mr. William Donkor, Metro Roads Engineer of the Sekondi-Takoardi Metropolis has appealed to the Government to take a second look at the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by commercial drivers.
He said while commercial vehicles which use petrol pay the Road Fund, those using LPG did not pay that fund.
Mr. Donkor, who was speaking to journalists said the commercial drivers, especially taxi drivers, had virtually taken over the use of LPG.
He said all commercial drivers must contribute to the Road Fund to enable the Government to have enough funds to rehabilitate the roads.
Mr. Donkor called for efforts of all motorists to ensure safety on the roads by avoiding irresponsible behavior like parking on the shoulders of the roads, washing of cars on the roads and oil leakage among others.
Capt Anthony Cudjoe, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, said heavy duty vehicles contribute largely to the fast deterioration of the roads.
He said plans were underway to give the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis roads a facelift; and on completion, heavy duty vehicles would be allocated routes and parking lots and terminals would be built.
Capt Cudjoe appealed to residents of the city to pay their taxes to ensure the speedy development of the Metropolis.**
