Energy & Natural Resources University, blessing for Ghana-VC

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) established in the Brong-Region would be a blessing for Ghana, Prof Mrs. Esi Awuah, the Vice Chancellor, has said.

She said the university would focus on research and study of energy and natural resources; the only one in Africa.

Prof. Mrs. Awuah said this in a paper on “Establishment of a Public University in the Brong-Ahafo Region; How Far Have We Have Gone” at a dialogue session as part of a four-day Regional Policy Fair.

She said the government established the university to provide leadership in the science, technology and management of energy and natural resources “and be a centre of excellence in these critical areas”.

Prof. Mrs. Awuah said “the university will approach its programmes and research emphasizing an interdisciplinary approach and taking into account the areas such as economics, law and policy, management, science, technology and engineering, social and political issues”.

Prof. Mrs. Awuah said, the University would develop teaching and research sites around the country to address the peculiar energy and natural resources issues.

She said the vision of “the university is to become a world class institution for harnessing, advancing and applying knowledge in the energy and natural resource science”.

Prof. Awuah said key University staff like herself, pro-VC, Registrar and Director of Finance were in place, adding that, the University would start with the School of Natural Resources, School of Arts and Social Studies, and the Graduate School of Management and Sustainable Development from the Sunyani campus.**
