Energy commission gets tough

The Energy Commission has impounded 3,600 used refrigerators at the Tema and Takoradi Ports.
Speaking on Suncity Radio Morning Show in Sunyani, the Public Affairs Officer of the Commission, Victor Owusu said a U.K based company Environcom Limited exported 17 out of the 34 containers that were impounded at the Tema Port. He stated that the commission had warned the management of the company against exporting used refrigerators to the country but it was adamant.
He disclosed that the project embarked on by the commission for the public to turn in their used refrigerators for new ones at a discount is still in place.
Mr. Owusu said the idea behind the project is to reduce electricity consumption in the country. He therefore encouraged the public to take advantage of the project and exchange their used fridges for new ones.
The Energy Commission commended Suncity Radio for the educative role it has been playing to ensure the success of the project especially in the Brong Ahafo Region.According to Mr. Owusu, the efforts of the new Sunyani-based Radio Station is highly commendable.
