Enact laws to sanction irresponsible parents- DCE

Peminase (Ash), Dec 29, GNA- Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, has urged chiefs, assembly members and unit committees in various communities to enact laws against irresponsible parents whose children are found in the streets.

He said it was a matter of concern to see school children in the streets at night instead of learning while their parents did nothing about it.

The result, Mr Afrifa said was the low standard in education leading to the dismal performance of pupils at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The DCE was addressing the chiefs and people of Peminase and Ofoase at separate meeting to discuss the performance of the pupils at this year’s BECE examination.

Mr Afrifa called on trained teachers to accept postings to the rural communities to help raise the standard of education in the areas. He gave the assurance that the assembly would support teachers who accept postings to the deprived areas.
