‘Emulate Yaa Asantewaa’ – Christine Churcher to women

Christine Churcher, former Member of Parliament for Cape Coast has admonished women to emulate the courage and bravery of Legendary Warrior and Queen, Yaa Asantewaa.

Defying the circumstances particularly gender disparities and the place of a woman in her days to lead thousands to war, Yaa Asantewaa left a precedent for the Ghanaian woman to follow.

According to Madam Christine Churcher, it is about time women took on the mettle of leadership in all spheres of life especially politics.

“If you want votes you don’t sleep and think because you’re a woman you will be voted for because the men will not sleep” she said.

The former Member of Parliament said, she takes inspiration from the fearlessness and valor of Yaa Asantewaa, the Queen of Ejisu and deems it fit that every young woman forges ahead with determination and courage as the queen.

“Yaa Asantewaa even in the midst of those male chiefs, stood up against the white superiors, gathered other women and demanded for the release of the captured Kings.”

“Ghana needs courageous women , Yaa Asantewaa’s in our body politics”, she said
