The College of Health Sciences is to establish two emergency units in Accra and Kumasi to train medical staff on how to respond to emergencies.
Rev. Professor A.S. Aryittey, Provost, College of Health Sciences announced this at the end of a three-day seminar by the CHS in Accra last week.
He said those trained would be sent to hospitals across the nation to help train other staff.
He said four doctors are on scholarship to specialize in emergency treatment. Last year, Dr. Eugenia Lamptey won a scholarship from the University of South California and this year, Dr. Adu Aryee has won a $2,000 scholarship.
“Emergency Medicine and Acute Care Course” was the third seminar held by the college for sixty-six nurses and doctors.
A representative from the University of South California, Dr. Kathryn Challoner presented textbooks on emergency medicine, surgery equipment and varied forms of medicine to the Korle-Bu Hospital.
She said the medicine is to be used to treat patients who may not be able to afford treatment.
