There is an acute shortage of Emergency Physicians in the country.
Currently, there are only 15 of them working in health facilities nationwide.
In order to increase the number, about 50 health workers are being sponsored to receive training in emergency services at the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
The initiative is being supported by the University of Michigan in the USA.
Leader of the training programme, Professor Peter Donkor, told Starr News there is an immediate need for more emergency physicians in the country.
“Five years ago there was not a single emergency doctor in Ghana but now we have 15 emergency doctors and about 40 nurses in that area but we need more.
“Now we are making efforts to train as much as needed because they are extremely important to the system.”
