Ellembelle institutes measures to curb cocoa smuggling

Nkroful (W/R), Aug. 14, GNA – The smuggling of cocoa from the northern sector of the Ellembelle District continue to deprive the area of huge revenue for development, Mr Daniel K. Eshun, District Chief Executive has said.

He said stringent measures were therefore being taken to stop the smuggling of the commodity to Prestea and its environs.

Mr Eshun made this known at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Fifth General Assembly at Nkroful in the Western Region.

As part of the interim measures, the assembly will build a cocoa shed to store the commodity and market it within the area.

Mr Eshun continued that the Aiyinase-Nyambekyere road would be constructed to link the forest zone to the rest of the district.

He said; “The delicate task of preventing the smuggling of cocoa across our frontiers is the collective responsibility of all.”

He charged assembly members in whose domain such “nefarious activities occur to help nip the problem in the bud”.
