Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament for the Ellembele Constituency in the Western Region, has said providing vocational and technical skills to the youth is a way to reduce unemployment in the society.
He said technical and vocational training would help improve living status and reduce the economic burden on families.
The MP was addressing beneficiaries of a two day intensive training in beekeeping and snail farming at the Centre for Scientific and industrial Research (CSIR).
The former Minister for Energy and Petroleum expressed his commitment to solving the unemployment situation in the constituency adding that he would continue to undertake projects that would empower the youth of Ellembelle to become economically independent.
He said there are more than 600 youth from his constituency which he has sponsored to acquire employable skills and they would soon graduate as welders, seamstresses, carpenters, masons, drivers, electricians and hairdressers.
The two day training took the participants through beekeeping management practices, diseases of bees, harvesting of honey from hives and marketing of honey and snails.
Expressing their appreciation for the opportunity given to them, the participants thanked the MP for the opportunity which has added value to their lives.
The programme instructor urged the participants to put the knowledge they had acquired into practice by establishing a business of their own.
