Cape Coast, July 11, GNA – Eleven out of the 13-municipal/district chief executives, including two women, in the Central Region were on Thursday sworn into office at a brief ceremony at the residency of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
They swore the oaths of office, secrecy and judicial, which were administered by Mr Justice Kodwo Kwei Acquaye, the Supervising High Court Judge in Cape Coast.
They were Messrs Muniru Arafat Nuhu, Cape Coast, Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantsiman, Job Acquah Markin, Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Kenneth Obempong, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam and Kwabena Karikari Apau, Assin North.
The others were Messrs Sam Agyeibi-Kesse, Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira, Richard Anane Adabor, Upper Denkyira, Solomon Kwashie Abam Quaye, Awutu-Efutu- Senya and George Frank Asmah, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem.
The two women were, Ms Joyce Aidoo for Gomoa and Madam Millicent Alice Kuranchie, Assin South districts.
The President is yet to nominate a DCE for Agona, while the nominee for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Mr Emmanuel Adjei Dompson failed to secure the two-thirds majority required for his confirmation. At the ceremony, Nana Ato Arthur, the Deputy Regional Minister was formally introduced to the chief executives and members of staff of the RCC.
In a brief address, the Regional Minister, Mr Isaac Edumadze, warned them against complacency and reminded them that the task ahead of them was enormous because of the region’s high poverty level coupled with lack of basic social and economic needs.
He exhorted them to work hard to turn the fortunes of the region around, since it abounds in natural resources that could be tapped to help reduce poverty, because “we cannot afford to fail the President and the people of this region”.
Ms Joyce Aidoo on behalf of her colleagues expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence he has in them and pledged that since they have the welfare of the people at heart, they would work harder to propel the development of the region forward.
