Agona Swedru (C/R), Oct 30, GNA – Eight fishermen from Munford, including the 2003 National Best Fisherman, Ekow Kotu were on Friday remanded in prison custody by an Agona Swedru Circuit Court for the unlawful installation of an Apofohene at Munford.
The rest were Ebenezer Ado, Headmaster of the Munford Primary and Junior Secondary School, Kwabena Donkor, Kofi Nseado, Kwadwo Adesi and Saforhene Kwadwo.
The other persons were Kweku Sakyi, Kofi Antowoma and the man who was installed as the new Apofohene, Opanyin Nkusem. Three others, Opanyin Kofi Ntew, Kodwo Anto and Egya Atour were granted bail due to their old age.
They pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on November 1, 2005. Police Inspector Ivy Agedom told the court presided over by Justice C. K. Wilson that on October 25, 2005 the accused persons installed an Apofohene at Munford without Police notification while there was already an Apofohene in the town.
He said the accused persons carried Opanyin Nkusem through the principle streets of the town as the new Apofohene contrary to the Public Order Law.
Mr. Kwesi Cab Addae, a Cape Coast Legal Practitioner is representing the accused persons.
