Electricity ladies donates to Cardio Centre

Power Queens, a ladies Association of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), at the weekend donated a cheque for GH¢15, 000.00 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Madam Rosemond Asamoah Frimpong, National President, Power Queens, who made the presentation, said it was part of the social responsibilities of the body to respond to the needs of the less privileged in the society.

She said the money is to help the centre support patients who are unable to afford their medical treatment at the centre.

“It will also help the centre defray some of the debt incurred from treating patients under emergency circumstances,” she said.

Madam Asamoah Frimpong noted that the Association over the years had supported various health institutions.

She explained that donation which formed part of activities marking the Association’s annual week celebration was made possible through the assistance of the management of ECG.

According to Madam Asamoah Frimpong, the Association had donated 150 pints of blood to the National Blood Centre.

Whilst acknowledging the power crises the country is going through, she appealed to ECG’s valued customers to pay their bills on time.

Dr Ekow Entsua Mensah, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, receiving the cheque, thanked Power Queens for the support, saying it was timely as a large number of people need the support in the treatment of their cardiovascular diseases.

He said not all patients that come to the centre for treatment could afford the cost but the Centre during emergency situations is forced to care for them.

“So when we have people like Power Queens coming to support us then we know people care about us,” he said.

Dr Entsua Mensah appealed to other benevolent organisations to emulate the kind gesture for less privileged patients to get the needed medical treatment.

Power Queens was formed to promote the image of ECG and the welfare of the female employees.

The association also holds sensitisation exercises for revenue generation as well as donating towards health issues in the country.
