Electrician to spend four years in jail

Alhassan Mohammed, 27, an Electrician at Asante Mampong, is to spend the next four years in prison for stealing electrical appliances valued GH ? 2,500.00.

He pleaded guilty for unlawful entry and stealing when he appeared before Mampong District Court.

The Court presided over by Mr Godwin Kpogli, fined Mohammed GH? 300.00 or in default serve six months imprisonment.

Police Chief Inspector John Amponsah told the Court that on July 17 at about 1130 hours, Mr Ebenezer Painstil, a hospital electrician went to the Asante Mampong Municipal Hospital maintenance department to switch on the hospital plant (generator).

The prosecution said when he reached the place, he heard a noise and detected that somebody had forcibly opened the door and entered the room.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said the witness became suspicious and searched the room only to see the suspect hiding somewhere in the room with some underground cables and other electrical appliances gathered around him

He said when the suspect was questioned what he was doing in the room, he attempted to run away but with the help of some of the hospital staff, they managed to apprehend him and handed him over to the police.

The prosecution said during police investigation the suspect admitted committing the crime and was charged with the offence.
