Electrician jailed five years for stealing motorbike

A circuit court at Akim Swedru has sentenced Kofi Appiah Twumesi, electrician, to five years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a motorbike valued 6,300 Ghana cedis.

Twumasi,23, pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kingsley Kwaku Antwi told the court presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong that Mr Pascal Cosone Ngmenyaw the complainant lives at Akim Asene while Twumasi lives at Akim Oda.

Chief Inspector Antwi said on November 19, 2012 Mr Ngmenyaw parked his motorbike on his veranda and went to bed but could not found it the following day and lodged a complaint with the police.

The prosecutor said a co-worker of Mr Ngmenyaw told him that the motorbike was parked in front of a friend’s house at Asamankese and when the friend was contacted he mentioned Twumasi as the one who brought it as collateral for a loan of 1,200 Ghana cedis.

A search was mounted on Twumasi and on January 13, he was arrested in Accra and brought to Akim Oda.

Chief Inspector Antwi said he admitted stealing the motorbike and that he sent it to Asamankese to sell.
