Electrician, 41, to contest Mahama, Akufo-Addo

A 41-year-old electrician is canvasing for nationwide support to contest the 2016 general elections as an independent presidential candidate.

Lawrence Jamil Nkutia, a Tema-based electrician, is on a campaign tour in some fishing communities of Keta in the Volta region to sell his message.

According to him, Ghana’s leadership has neglected the national vision due to partisan governments hence the need for an independent minded person to direct the course of the nation.

“I want to lead Ghana not to the glory of any political party but Ghana as a whole and to the glory of God… political parties were ruling to make name for their parties. But for me I have seen that the vision is about Ghana. That’s why I’m coming as independent candidate to lead the nation,” Nkutia told Starr News’ Volta regional correspondent Lambert Atsivor.

The electrician bemoaned the neglect of the agriculture sector by successive governments, after Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and military ruler Ignatius Acheampong. He stressed the sector will be the mainstay of his administration.

“The structures have been laid down already, but that basic strong foundation laid down for the economy has been abandoned after Kwame Nkrumah, that was highlighted by the late Acheampong, under his operation feed yourself. This strong agriculture base has been abandoned and we think it is foreign money that can revive this.

“Until we realize it ourselves and want to sacrifice to go back to the lands that are dead, we’ll never find the developmental goal of our economy and this is what I want to engage Ghanaians on,” he noted.
