A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Kwaku Adoma, a 22 year-old illegal miner at Bonsawire, a farming community near Tarkwa, to 36 months for stealing an electrical cable, causing damage and unlawful entry.
He pleaded guilty to all the three counts.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court, presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante, that around 1300 hours on September 22 this year, the complainant, John Lomotey who lived at Akyempim, a suburb of Tarkwa, visited his building site at the outskirt of the town.
She said while Lomotey was working at the site, he detected an unusual movement in a room.
Chief Inspector Tawiah said when the complainant peeped through an opening in a window, he saw Adoma stealing some electrical cable that he had kept in the room.
She said the complainant detected that the convict entered the room through a ceiling valued at 200 Ghana cedis which he broke to enable him have access into the room.
Chief Inspector Tawiah said the complainant asked Adoma what he was doing in the room but he could not give any reasonable answer and the complainant started shouting for help.
She said the complainant’s shout for help attracted those living in the area to the scene and the convict was arrested, when he attempted escaping through the broken roof.
Chief Inspector Tawiah said when the residents searched the room, they found a school bag containing one bundle of electrical cable that the convict had stolen and Adoma was handed over to the police to assist investigation.
