Electorates asked not to make demands from parliamentary candidates

New Tafo (E/R), Aug. 15, GNA- The East Akim District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Mr Franklin Boafo, has advised the electorates not to make monetary demands from parliamentary candidates.

He said: “if your votes are paid for, then those you vote for are no more accountable to you”.

Mr Boafo was reacting to a question at a forum organized by the NCCE for farmers at Akim New Tafo on Friday.

He said provision of developmental projects were also not to be used as a yardstick to determine the credibility of candidates. This is because it is not the responsibility of the MPs to provide developments, rather it is the District Assemblies, he said. A senior Public Education Officer of the NCCE, Mr Razak Bioni, who spoke on the need for peaceful elections, warned that political activities were no excuse for party activists to breach the Public Order Act.

He therefore called on all political parties to abide by the Act during the campaign.

Mr Bioni urged the people to check their names for any correction when the voter’s register is displayed.
