Electoral Commission says it would be neutral

Nkoranza (B/A), March 15, GNA- Mr. Kwabena Asante, Nkoranza District electoral officer, has given the assurance that the Commission would remain neutral and play its role responsibly during next December elections.

He was briefing the leadership of the New Patriotic Party, National Democratic Congress and the Convention People’s Party in the Nkoranza constituency about the voters’ registration exercise at Nkoranza. The electoral officer urged them not to rely on misinformation to draw conclusions but to contact the Commission when they are in difficulty rather than relying on unsubstantiated pronouncements. Mr. Asante asked Ghanaians to have confidence in the Commission and offer the necessary support for the success of the elections. He urged party leaders to encourage their supporters to register to enable them to vote in the general election.

It is an offence for any individual to register twice or use someone’s name to register, he said and cautioned eligible persons to guard against such fraudulent practices.

The party representatives appealed to the youth in the various parties to avoid negative practices and sustain the peace and stability of the country. 15 March 04
