Elections should be incident free- Mrs. Akufo-Addo

Bogoso (w/r) Sept. 10, GNA – Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of Nana Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential aspirant on Wednesday said the December general elections should not lead to violence, deaths and destruction of property.

She said, the entire electoral process should be peaceful, exceptional and an example for other African countries. Mrs. Akufo-Addo said these at a meeting with women’s groups at Bogoso near Tarkwa in the Western Region.

“We must all as Ghanaians avoid all forms and acts that could lead to violence, mayhem and rather promote peace, reconciliation and tolerance of divergent political views” she stressed. Mrs. Akufo-Addo said the election should not be a “do or die affair” but should be one in which the winner and loser would be ready and willing to accept the outcome of the results without pointing accusing fingers at each other.

Mrs. Agnes Frimpong-Boateng, a member of the Campaign team said it would be suicidal for supporters of the NPP to vote “skirt and blouse” and urged all of them to vote massively for the NPP. “Wherever there is an NPP candidate, we must all vote massively for such persons, to enable the party and government continue with its works of general improvement in the lives of the people of the country and the provision of infrastructure and social amenities for all” she stressed. Mr Kofi Yonkopah, the NPP parliamentary aspirant for the Wassa Amenfi central constituency assured that the NPP would win the seat in the constituency. Mr Yonkopah said though the current MP, Mr George Arthur had played his part in brining development to the area, the constituents must vote for him to bring about more changes in the constituency. The Wassa Central constituency of the NPP women’s wing was inaugurated as part of the ceremony. 10 Sept 08
