Elections not “do and die affair” – Mrs Bawumia

Winneba (C/R), Nov. 3, GNA – December 7, 2008 elections should not be seen as “a do and die affair”, Mrs Samira Bawumia, wife of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate has told Ghanaian. She, therefore, advised electorate to pray for free, fair and peaceful elections in order to consolidate the nation’s democratic process.

Mrs Bawumia gave the advice when she addressed the University of Education, Winneba branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of the NPP (TESCON) at Winneba.

She said the next NPP government would ensure a salary system that would be fair and equitable especially for teachers. Mrs Bawumia said an NPP government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would invest in the youth by providing free basic and secondary education.

She reiterated that the NPP government would establish a University in every Region of the country and equipped them with science and computer laboratories in order to bring education closer to the people.

Mrs Bawumia said the NPP would win the elections that was why they were not out to foment trouble and appealed to members of the party especially the youth to remain calm.

The Chief Patron of TESCON and a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr George Kankam said plans were far advanced to help some students transfer their votes to other constituencies. Dr Kankam said by the close of next week, not less than 10,000 votes of the student population would have been transferred to the Effutu Constituency.

Earlier in a welcoming address, the President of TESCON, Nana Ohene Stephen said, the nation required visionary leadership and urged the students to act as foot soldiers and ensure victory for the NPP. 3 Nov. 08
