Election Task Force meets to devise strategies

Koforidua, Nov 11, GNA – Heads of District Election Task Force Committees in the Eastern Region, members of the Regional Task Force and other top security coordinators on Tuesday held a meeting to devise strategies to handle security during, before and after next month’s general elections. The objective of the meeting held in Koforidua, was to harmonize the role of operations among all the security agencies that make up the district and regional task force to adopt a common approach to tackle difficult situations.

George Anko-Bil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) and Chairman of the Regional Election Task Force who briefed the media said the meeting was part of contingency plans towards a peaceful and fair election. He explained that the meeting was to help all the security agencies involved in the task force to identify problems and lapses that might have been overlooked but which posed a security threat to the run-up to the elections and find a common approach to tackle them. DCOP Anko-Bil, who is also the Regional Police Commander, indicated that the task force was targeting the media through a series of education to do away with negative reporting that could create panic among the public during the election period. He also disclosed that from now until December 7, the task force would embark on mock exercises to test their readiness towards the real election.

The Commanding Officer of the First Infantry Battalion (IBN), Lieutenant Colonel Ebo Gaisie said the unit would be responsible for the region to complement the role of the other security agencies during the elections. He said in line with that responsibility, personnel from the IBN were part of all the 21 district election ask forces and that the security agencies were equally prepared to nib any security threat in the bud.
