Election Petition: NDC, NPP reject IEA’s ‘not to seek review’ plea

Both the NPP and the NDC have rejected the plea by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to avoid seeking a review on the Judgment of the election petition case.

The policy group in a statement said whichever party loses the election petition should not seek for a review.

According to the think tank, accepting the final verdict without challenging it will “facilitate the process of national reconciliation and unity”.

It added that whichever party emerges winner must also “refrain from provocative victory celebrations and taunting of the other party”.

But Chairman of the main opposition NPP Jake Obetsebi Lamptey who is also the third petitioner in an interview with XYZ News said the parties have the right to go for a review and have the right to exercise it or not.

Similarly, Deputy General Secretary of the governing NDC George Lawson said the IEA is overstepping its boundaries with the suggestion.

“Did they advice somebody to go to court?.. If somebody wants to go for review that is none of the business of the IEA…they are going beyond their bounds,” he stressed.
