Election observers asked to discharge duties with integrity

Ejisu (Ash), Oct. 26, GNA – The Ejisu-Juaben District Electoral Officer, Mrs Alberta Mensa-Bonsu has called on election observers to discharge their duties with integrity to help ensure free, fair and transparent elections on December 7.

Addressing Election Observers Training Workshop organized by the Konongo-Mampong Diocese of the Catholic Church at Ejisu at the weekend, she pointed out that the presence of competent observers at elections generally helped to ensure the acceptability of election results both locally and internationally.

She referred them to the prescribed code of conduct for observers and urged them to be conversant with the code to ensure that they did not unduly interfere in the polling process.

“An observer shall take reasonable steps to substantiate every statement or information provided in connection with the conduct of the elections”, Mrs Mensa-Bonsu said, cautioning that, they should not put across any statement that they could not substantiate to avoid impugning the fairness of the election.
