The immediate past presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Professor Asante has bemoaned the ‘winner takes all’ system of politics in the country.
According to him, the system is the main contributory factor of conflicts and has urged politicians to shun the practice and rather embark on a system where every Ghanaian can contribute to the development of Ghana.
The Chairman of the Peace Council was speaking the inaugural Koomson Ackah Nkyiah Memorial Lectures in Accra. He said there is the need for Ghanaians to respect authority, respect for diversity and divergent views.
The lecture which was under the theme “Reflections of the Past, Present and the Future; The Role of Christian Men and Women in Peace Building In Ghana”.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante said politics should not be a do or die affair and that the winner takes all system has the tendency to undermine our peace.
He charged Ghanaians to propagate the gospel of peace and reconciliation especially this election year.
The Church he emphasized has and continues to play a critical role in the democratic process of this country.
