Election challenge not a ploy for Nana Addo’s comeback as flagearer – NPP

The leadership of the main opposition NPP has denied alleged claims and suspicions that the party’s Supreme Court challenge of the 2012 election results is a grand ploy to perpetuate 2012 flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo for the 2016 elections.

Pollster Ben Ephson raised suspicions to that effect in a recent interview with XYZ News.

A former Bole Bamboi Constituency Executive of the party, Haruna Mahama has also raised similar suspicions.

The former aide to NPP Chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey in an interview with XYZ News said Akufo-Addo’s faction in the party is latching on the court case to prepare the grounds towards entrenching the 2012 flagbearer’s hold on the party ahead of the 2016 elections.

But the party’s General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, speaking to XYZ News said Ben Ephson and other conspiracy theorists have got it all wrong.

“We believe that on the mountain of evidence that we have, we won the election, which is why we are in court,” he said.
