Election 2016: NPP couldn’t boast of large exaggerated armour of money – Akufo Addo

President-elect Nana Akufo Addo has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) victory in the December 7 general elections despite the party’s limited resources to run its campaign gives true meaning to the NPP’s slogan: “The battle is the Lord’s.”

According to him, the Party’s emphatic victory in the 2016 elections couldn’t have been possible if the Lord was not on the side of the NPP, adding that they couldn’t have won the elections on its own strength.

The three-time Flagbearer of the largest opposition party was declared winner of the general elections after he polled 5,716, 026 votes to beat the incumbent President John Dramani Mahama who garnered 4,713,277 votes out of the 10,615,361 valid votes cast, which were votes from 271 out of 275 constituencies

Speaking at a Thanksgiving Service at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo stated that despite the NPP’s limited campaign resources, the party triumphed due to its tenacity of purpose. “when we began our campaign, when we embarked on our electoral mission, we committed ourselves and our mission to our Lord. We did not say the battle is our’s,…did we? what did we say…the battle is the Lord’s. Did we say we could win the election of 2016 by ourselves?…no, did we say we were Goliath clad in protective armour… no, did we say we had might…no, we said the battle was the Lord’s.

He added: “We agreed that we were David,….small, meek, modest and without the large exaggerated armour of money except for a small and threatening sling. But we kept our heads up and set forth with firmness and unwavering conviction, we did not break.” We knew that the battle was the Lord’s.
