Ejura community celebrates Yam Festival

Ejura (Ash), Nov.8, GNA- The chiefs and people of Ejura, have celebrated the annual Yam Festival, which marks the beginning of a new year on the traditional calendar.

They began the celebration on Friday, parading the streets singing traditional songs.

According to legend the people started eating yams, when a hunter observed bush pigs eating the tuber crop without dying. Nana Kwaku Sarfo the II, the Ejurahene (Chief), used the occasion to appeal to the electorate to ensure peace before, during and after the December 7 polls.

He asked the people to select leaders who could promote national progress.

Madam Elizabeth Owusu, the Ejura/Sekyedumase District Chief Executive presented 12 million cedis on behalf of the Government for the celebration.

She also called on Ghanaians to ensure incident-free Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Sidelight of the celebration included the launching of a book entitled: “The Succession Road Map of the Bonsie and Boakye Stool of Ejura.
