Ejisu (Ash) Nov. 29, GNA- Participants at a Mock Youth Assembly at Ejisu in the Ejisu-Juaben District, have appealed to the National Media Commission (NMC), to ban Radio and Television programmes that were offensive to the moral sensibilities of Ghanaians. They asked the NMC to be more assertive and sanction media houses that acted irresponsibly.
This was contained in a resolution adopted at the end of the Assembly, organised by the National Youth Council (NYC) at the weekend. It was part of the Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health programme of the NYC.
The Mock Assembly attracted students from Ejisuman Secondary School; Bonwire Secondary/Technical; Kwamo Secondary/Technical; Ejisu Secondary Technical, Ejisu Experimental Junior Secondary School and members of the Virgin Clubs at Ejisu, Besease and Fumesua. The Assembly condemned the promotion of pornography, violence and occult practices in the mass media, which had led to the growing indiscipline and waywardness among the youth. The youth also expressed concern about the rate at which marriages were breaking up and appealed to parliament and traditional leaders to explore ways of reversing the trend. Mr Amankwaa Frimpong, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the NYC, said since the youth were the future leaders of the country, it was important that they were given every needed protection and guidance to enable them grow to become responsible adults. 29 Nov. 04
