The Electoral Commission (EC) has detected eighteen cases of multiple registration in the Effutu constituency during the Biometric Registration Exercise.

Mr. Anthony Oppong, Effutu Municipal Director of the Commission who made this known at the third Inter-Party Dialogue Committee in Winneba on Tuesday said the names of the offenders together with those from other parts of the country had been send to the Police headquarters for further action.

He said a total of 47,014 people registered in the area during the just ended Biometric Registration Exercises against 43,000 in the previous register.

He said this had necessitated the creation of an additional 18 polling stations to bring the number from 54 to 72.

Mr. Oppong urged Ghanaians to contribute towards efforts being made by the EC, the government and the security agencies to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in December.

Mr. Robert Collins Annan, Effutu Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), emphasized the need for political parties in the area to help educate the electorate on the importance of the exhibition of the voters’ register and go to check their names and particulars.

Mr. Annan urged leaders of the various political parties in the area to critically study the Code of Conduct of Political Parties that guides them on their campaign.

This will enable their members and supporters to desist from indulging in acts that would not help the country’s democratic dispensation.

Among topics discussed at the meeting were overview of the Biometric Registration Exercise, Code of conduct for political parties, Road map to peaceful elections in December 2012 and exhibition of the voters register.
