Eight killed in road crash

Eight people were killed when two trucks heading towards opposite direction collided head-on at Breku near Nnadieso on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.

Police Inspector Manasseh Obimpe of the Juaso Police Station, who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said six of them died on the spot and the remaining two at the Juaso District Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased – five women and three men, are yet to be identified and had been deposited at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

He said the driver of one of the trucks – a DAF cargo vehicle, loaded with plantain and traveling towards Accra attempted to avoid running into a broken down Daewoo bus and in the process crashed into the other truck carrying cement.

The incident happened at about 2200 hours on Monday.

The Daewoo bus had been towed to the Juaso District Police Headquarters, as the officers look for its owner to assist their investigations.
