Eight government appointees for Wa Municipal Assembly

Wa, Feb. 20, GNA – Eight new government appointees have been sworn-in as members of the Wa Municipal Assembly, at Wa on Thursday. Naa Mohammed Y. Hamidu, Madam Musah K. Meriga, Alhaji Ankilu Sumaila, Alhaji Mohammed Kabore, Sylvester Bienta, Mr. Rashid Dickson, Madam Samia Alhassan and Alhaji Aziz Adam, were sworn into office by Mr. Justice Goerge Koomson, High Court Judge at Wa. They replaced eight persons whose appointment had been revoked following the coming into being of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Two other members, Mr. Iddrisu Adams, Presiding Member of the Assembly and Madam Musah K. Meriga assembly member have also been elected as representatives to the Regional Electoral College to elect the regional representative on the Council of State. Mr. Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, the outgoing Municipal Chief Executive, observed that democracy had gained roots as the country had gone through successful elections since 1992.

He commended political parties, security agencies, the Electoral Commission and other stakeholders for ensuring peaceful elections last year.

Mr. Mohammed urged the assembly members be tolerant, diligent and dedicated to duty for the development of the municipality. He called for regular training programme for assembly members to update their skills to enable them to solve problems facing the area. Mr. Mohammed commended the residents of Wa for the massive turned out at last Saturday’s cleanup exercise to rid the municipality of filth.

Mr. Adams advised the appointees to avoid political differences and work for the common interest of the people. 20 Feb. 09
