Eight Die In Collision

Obuasi (ASH), Sept 1, – Eight people died on the spot and one at the Ashanti Goldfields Company (AGC) Hospital at Obuasi when a Bedford bus on which they were travelling from Prestea to Kumasi collided with a tipper truck near Kwapia in the Adansi West District last night. Twenty five others who received various degrees of injuries were treated and discharged while six of them are on admission. An AGC hospital source named five of those on admission as Amponsah, Kwame Nyame, Kofi Darko, Oppong Atta Senior and Amma Akyaa. A source at the Obuasi Divisional Police told the Ghana News Agency that the driver of the tipper truck, who is on the run, was suspected to have gone off his lane and run into the on-coming bus. It said the dead have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary in Kumasi for autopsy while the driver of the bus, Yaw Obuor, is helping the Obuasi police in their investigations.
