Dr Richard Anane, Health Minister said on Tuesday that the ministry will continue with the good programmes of the past government.
“A change in government does not mean a change in focus but a change in management, which will be in the interest of the people,” Dr Anane said when he received the Egyptian Ambassador, Mr Moneim Talaat, in Accra.
The two discussed bilateral issues and in particular Egypt’s support to the ministry in its efforts to improve health care delivery.
Dr Anane commended Egypt’s assistance in providing health specialists, training and drugs and appealed to the ambassador for further assistance in training more paediatrics and neurosurgeons among others specialists.
Mrs Victoria Dako, Director of Hospital Administration and Support Services said the Ministry would also welcome Egypt’s assistance in emergency management and the provision of human resources.
Mr Talaat said though the two countries have done little in tapping each other’s expertise, “we want to transform the relationship into a long standing one which will benefit the two countries”, he added.
He pledged his country’s assistance in sending more specialists in addition to the three doctors already serving in the country.
Egypt will also help in the fight against polio.
Mr Talaat said his government has supplied a consignment of drugs, which the Food and Drugs Board is examining before putting them on the market.
