Efigya/Sekyere East New PatriocParty Elect Officers

Agona (Ashanti), 17 Sept.,

Mr Ben Abankwa, a teacher of the Jamasi Roman Catholic Junior Secondary School (JSS), has been elected chairman of the Afigya/Sekyere East Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at a delegates conference at Agona. Other officers elected are Mr Francis Adusei and Alhaji Adamu, first and second vice-chairman respectively, Mr Charles Frimpong Alpha, secretary, Mr E. F. K. Boamah, treasurer, Nana K. Adanse, organiser, and Miss Florence Achiaa, women’s organiser. Addressing the meeting, Mr A. K. Kyerematen, Member of Parliament for the area, advised the members to avoid squabbles and unite to organise effectively at the grassroots towards the year 2000 general elections. He also urged them to co-operate with the district assembly and pay their rates promptly for the smooth development of the district. Mr Abankwa thanked the members for electing them and promised that they will not lord it over them. He expressed the hope that with their support and co-operation, the new executives will work hard to build a very strong party in the constituency. He charged them not to regard members of the other parties as enemies. They should mobilise all the people to join their ranks in order to establish the party for the next general elections. The Ashanti Regional Office of the party was represented by Mr K. Donkor and Mr Antwi Boasiako, acting Regional Secretary and Organiser respectively, at the elections held under the supervision of the district representatives of the Electoral Commission.
