Winneba (C/R), Jan. 12, GNA – The Effutu Traditional Council at the weekend organised a get-together for heads of department, institutions and some personalities in the town for their contribution towards the maintenance of peace as well as development in the areas. The get-together was also used to discus how best ideas could be put together towards the development of the area and as well as preserve peace in the Effutu Municipality.
Speaking at the function, Neeyi Ghartey VII, Omanhene of the Effutu Traditional Area and President of the Traditional Council, assured the heads of their safety in the area.
He said the Traditional Council would continue to cooperate with heads of department posted to the area and urged them to ensure that while working for government, they would offer their expertise towards the development of the area.
The Omanhene urged heads of decentralized department, institutions and other business entities to co-operate with the Traditional Council towards the rapid development of the area.
He entreated them not to hesitate to call on the Traditional Council for the necessary assistance when the need arises. Neeyi Ghartey said peace and unity is one of the bedrock for good governance and development, and appealed to the people to always ensure that peace and tranquillity exist in the area. He asked the heads to use dialogue to solve differences instead of resorting to violence and demonstration. On the just ended general elections, Neeyi Ghartey thanked the almighty God for listening to the prayers of Ghanaians for peaceful elections. He also congratulated his people for comporting themselves during that period resulting in an incidence free elections. Mr Robert Andrews Ekow Ghunney, out-going Effutu Municipal Chief Executive also congratulated the people for exhibiting maturity in the December 2008 presidential, parliamentary and the presidential run-off. He called for cooperation among the people, adding that they were one people with a common destiny.
Mr Ghunney entreated people in the area especially the technocrats and assembly members to extend their support to whoever will be appointed to replace him with the change in government. Mr Mike Allan Hammah, the new Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu Constituency thanked the chiefs and people for the honour done him by electing him to represent them in Parliament. He said his doors were opened for suggestions and advices that would help develop the area.
