Effutu Traditional Council appeals for calm

Accra, July 5, GNA – The Effutu Traditional Council on Wednesday appealed to the people of the area to remain clam and law abiding as the Council awaited an appeal it had filed against the renaming of the Winneba Junction.

A release signed by Neenyi Ghartey VII, Effutu Oma Odefe to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said although the ruling of a High Court on May 30, 2006 was in bad faith, 93any rowdy or violent action cannot resolve the problem.

“We decided to prosecute the long standing conflict with the Gomoa Ajumako Paramountcy over our legitimate rights to our lands at the Agona Swedru High Court to ease the management of our lands to hasten the development of our area.

“To us the ruling of the Court was in bad faith with the law, hence our appeal against the ruling.”

The Effutu Traditional Council, the release noted, took notice of the action by the Gomoa Ajumako Paramountcy in renaming the Winneba Roundabout on June 22, 2006.

“We wish all Ghanaians to take note that Executive Instrument (EI) 206 of 1961 and EI 83 of 1963 all administratively controlling the management of the lands bordering the two traditional areas are still in force and have in no way been affected by the ruling of this High Court. “We, therefore, wish to inform all to ignore the actions by the Gomoa Ajumako Paramountcy in its entirety, the release said.
